Verona

The city of rose-colored marble is no less romantic today than it was in shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In fact, the city's artistic strength is in part inherited from its two thousand year stint as a major metropolis.Even during its formative years as a Roman colony,Verona was an important cross roads, and the remarkably well preserved remains from this period are tangible evidence of the colony's preeminence. In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries,Verona experienced another cultural heyday under the rule of the Della Scala Clan.

The majestic pink Arena in Pizza Bra dates back to 100 AdD , and among Roman amphitheatres it is surpassed in size only by the Capua and the Colosseum in Rome. In July and August, it hosts an annual Opra and ballat extravaganza.

Verona is famous for its Roman amphitheatre, the Arena, completed around 30 AD, which is the third largest in Italy, after Rome's Colosseum and the arena at Capua. It measures 139 meters long and 110 meters wide, and could seat some 25,000 spectators in its 44 tiers of marble seats.
